
Symposium "Contemporary Art Crafts in Asia" was one of the events held in conjunction with “Beauty of Kogei: Art Crafts in Japan” exhibition. The symposium featured a panel of experts from various Southeast Asian countries and was intended to discuss art crafts- aesthetically engaged objects made by hand and its role in cultural and economic contexts.
Dye artist Ms Shihoko Fukumoto made the keynote speech at the symposium where she explained the type of work that she does as well as the processes involved. During her speech Ms Fukumoto also showed audience a video of the steps required to make her works.
Citing the indigo as her favoured colour to work with, Ms Fukumoto’s works predominantly use indigo as a primary colour
